Now that we are getting ready for the end of the regular season and conference tournament time, it is perhaps worth taking another look at the Bracketology projections
Some depressed fans have suggested that Villanova would be on the bubble, or perhaps even left out after a late-season slide, but bracketologists have universally included Villanova in their field so far, and none has yet to suggest that Villanova's invitation is in any danger.
A greater number of projections suggest that Villanova will be a 6 seed, but at least three of them are still listing Villanova as a 5 seed. Similarly, a slightly larger number of projections has the 'Cats playing in the southeast regional (New Orleans), though a few project the southwest (San Antonio). Of the projections that pick opening weekend sites, Tampa was the only site to appear multiple times.
As it stands, this is where the Wildcats project in the NCAA tournament right now, according to a selection of bracketologists:
Lunardi/ESPN: Has Villanova as a 6-seed in the Southeast region, facing Georgia in Tampa.
Glockner/SI: Has Villanova as a 6-seed in the Southwest region, facing St. Mary's in Tuscon.
Bracketology 101: Has Villanova as a 5-seed in the Southeast region, playing Southern Mississippi in Tampa.
The Hoops Report: Has Villanova as a 6-seed in the WEST region, facing Butler.
Ommen/NBCSports: Has Villanova as a 5-seed in the Southeast region, playing either Michigan or Colorado in Tampa.
Hayes/RushTheCourt: Projects Villanova as a 5-seed in the Southwest, opening the tournament against either Butler or Clemson in Charlotte.
Palm/CBSSports.com: Has Villanova as a 6-seed in the Southwest region, playing either Virginia Tech or Butler in Tulsa.
Blogging the Bracket: Projects the Wildcats as a 6-seed with a likely meeting with Butler.
UPDATE 6:30p: The Hoops Report bracket was updated this evening. The relevant change was that Villanova was moved to the West region from the Southeast.
