What Will It Take?

Stay connected for news and updates

Our questions have been answered and the Villanova Wildcats have been given another bid to the NCAA Tournament.  Yes, we know the ‘Cats had an extremely disappointing finish to the regular season.  Yes, they may have forgotten there are 2 halves to a Big East Tournament game.  They may have even caused some fans to become clinically depressed.  But, a team only needs to earn a bid to the big dance; from there, all teams still have a chance.  The question now becomes: What will it take to make a run?

Besides having a team that is physically healthy enough to compete, there seems to be a few key points to victory.

Composure
Countless times, we have seen the ‘Cats lose their composure during a game.  Whether it begins with an errant pass, a technical foul, etc. it has snowballed into many more bad decisions.  This snowballing could be the difference in several of our <5 point losses.  A couple turnovers here, a couple free buckets for opponents there.  If the ‘Cats maintained composure, how many of these close games would ‘Nova come away with a W?

Leadership
When the road gets tough, a team looks to its leaders.  Now is the time when ‘Nova's seniors need to take control.  This team has plenty of talented individuals. They just need to put all the pieces together and play as a team, which requires leaders!  Contrary to what the country has seen as of late, Villanova has the talent to run the table.   The seniors must step up; get everyone believing that they are capable.  Words only go so far; time to walk the walk.

Pride
When all is said and done, the desire to go above and beyond goes a long way.  All it takes is one player to show it, which can help inspire the entire team to believe.  Apologies in advance for this next part.  If you want an example, look no further than UConn's own Kemba Walker.  Look at the way Walker played throughout the Big East Tournament!  He wasn't going to let the Huskies go down without a fight.  He had them believing that no matter how tired or sore, they could do it!

Al Pacino said it best in his speech from Any Given Sunday, "Either we heal now, as a team, or we will die as individuals..."

"...Now, wattaya gonna do?"

LET'S GO CATS!
