Following a tumultuous couple of weeks where the fanbase began to come to grips with the fact that this Villanova Wildcats team just wasn't very good, Jay Wright's squad came out today and crushed the DePaul Blue Demons at The Pavilion, winning 87-71.
After the abomination against South Florida and DePaul's impressive win against Pitt, it looked like this might be another tough outing for 'Nova. Instead, it turned into a W, and a relatively easy one at that.
More after The Jump.
Have a look at the box score of this game, and you're going to see some pretty incredible stats. In some ways, it's hard to come to grips with.
Villanova shot 57% from the field.
Villanova went 4-9 (the number of attempts is more in line for what we're looking for) from 3-point range.
Villanova had 27 turnovers. I repeat. 27 turnovers, including an astounding 8 by freshman Ty Johnson.
Villanova went 27-34 from the FT line.
And all of that translated into perhaps their best offensive output of the season behind 21 points from Maalik Wayns, 20 points from Dominic Cheek, 14 points from Mouphtaou Yarou and 13 points from JayVaughn Pinkston.
I just don't know what to think anymore after seeing this type of performance with so much good, and so much bad.
