We're a few days late on this but it's worth mentioning that Matt Szczur has been promoted to AA, where he will join the Tennessee Smokies of the Southern League. They are the AA affiliate of the Chicago Cubs.
Szczur, who was named a Florida State League all-star this season, was hitting .295 with 2 HRs and 34 RBI prior to the promotion. He also led the FSL in steals with 38 steals and 68 runs, all this despite missing nearly 3 weeks of the season.
If you follow baseball at all you know the Cubs are a complete mess and in rebuilding mode, so with continued progress Szczur has a good shot to make an impact with the Cubs in the future.
