What a roller-coaster the past few weeks have been. But we seem to be back on the uptick after Villanova officially announced the hiring of Raphael Chillious as the new assistant men's basketball coach. There's a lot of chatter out there about how this is a home-run hire for Villanova (something that seemed impossible just a week ago) in the recruiting and coach sense.
If you haven't read up about Chillious yet, make sure to check out Brian's excellent posts on him here and here.
The other big news that affects recruiting for 2013 is the fact that Mislav Brzoja appears to be enrolled at Villanova and will be a member of the team this year. He had a big summer in Europe and looks like he's going to be a player for us. That takes some stress off recruiting - but really only in the backcourt.
Join me after The Jump for this week's Big Board.
Villanova has 2 seniors on the roster this season in Mouphtaou Yarou and Maurice Sutton, and have 12 scholarship roster players (Dylan Ennis will be taking a redshirt year). 'Nova will be targeting anywhere from 1 to 3 prospects for the 2013 recruiting class. Make no mistake about it, this is a big recruiting year for Jay Wright.
Point Guards
With Tony Chennault, Ty Johnson and Ryan Arcidiacono on campus this fall (and Dylan Ennis joining the following season), point guard is not a huge position of need - however there are players that if they were interested, we'd certainly welcome with open arms.
| Target | Hometown (HS) | Height/Weight | Recruiting Profiles | Trending | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rysheed Jordan | Philadelphia, PA (Vaux Roberts) | 6'4", 185 lbs. | We're probably looking at a fall commitment timeline from Jordan after news broke last week they'll he'll be trimming his list and taking visits in the fall. |
||
| Andrew Harrison | Fort Bend, TX (Travis) |
6'5", 205 lbs. |
Can Coach Chill make an impact? This remains a longshot but sometimes new blood on the staff can shake up a recruitment. |
Shooting Guards
A priority in this class with only Achraf Yacoubou & James Bell capable of playing the 2 this season until Ennis is eligible, Jay Wright would really like to add a high-end scorer.

|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Allerik Freeman | Charlotte, NC (Findlay Prep) | 6'4", 210 lbs. | What was once a VU-KU race has turned into a battle between Ohio State, UCLA, Duke and 'Nova. Kansas doesn't look to be involved anymore. |
||
| Terrence Samuel | Brooklyn, NY (South Shore) | 6'3", 175 lbs. | 'Nova appears to be out of this race - this is Samuel's final week on our board unless something changes. |
||
| Aaron Harrison | Fort Bend, TX (Travis) | 6'5", 210 lbs. | Like his brother, can Coach Chill make an impact? This remains a longshot but sometimes new blood on the staff can shake up a recruitment. |
Small Forwards
There isn't a huge need here with the recent addition of Mislav Brzoja from Croatia, in addition to James Bell, Darrun Hilliard, and even JayVaughn Pinkston's capability to play the 3.
Note: Ishmail Wainright was removed from the big board.

|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Josh Hart | Silver Springs, MD (Sidwell Friends) | 6'5", 190 lbs. | Probably one of the first guys for Coach Chill to call to see what's happening - 2 weeks ago he had some glowing things to say about 'Nova and said he will be taking an official visit in the fall. | ||
| B.J. Johnson |
Ardmore, PA (Lower Merion) | 6'6", 170 lbs. | The local product seemed to be on the backburner for 'Nova in recent months but he took a visit a couple of Fridays ago and we're likely back in play. He's young for his grade too, so he's got room to grow. |
Forwards
Unless you're all dying to see the 4-guard lineup rolled out on a consistent basis, we could use some beef up front.
| Target | Hometown (HS) | Height/Weight | Recruiting Profiles | Trending | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tyler Roberson | Roselle, NJ (Roselle Catholic) | 6'8", 210 lbs. | Roberson released his final 10 schools he'll be considering, with Villanova mkaing the cut. He recently spoke to Adam Zagoria about his 10 finalists. Remains a priority for this class. |
||
| Reggie Cameron | Paterson, NJ (Hudson Catholic) | 6'7", 215 lbs. | I spoke with a source with knowledge of Cameron's thinking and right now it appears as if Villanova is on the outside looking in. They're not out yet though. |
||
| Kris Jenkins | Washington, DC (Gonzaga) | 6'6", 230 lbs. | Another guy that Coach Chill will likely try to get involved with quickly. Recently named his final 5, with Villanova on the list. |
||
| Isaiah Watkins | Toronto, Ont., CAN (St. Benedict's) | 6'8", 230 lbs. | Watkins just trimmed down his list down to 13 schools, with Villanova making the cut. Remains a plan B option for Villanova. |
Centers
With Markus Kennedy transferring, Mouph set to graduate and only Daniel Ochefu waiting in the wings, it's imperative that Jay Wright add a big body (or 2) up front.
| Target | Hometown (HS) | Height/Weight | Recruiting Profiles | Trending | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chinonso Obokoh | Rochester, NY (Bishop Kearney) | 6'9", 220 lbs. | Obokoh continues to collect high-major interest as his stock rises seemingly every week. In my opinion, a priority for Villanova. |
||
| Kyle Washington | Champlain, MN (The Hotchkiss Schoo) | 6'9", 215 lbs. | With Coach Chill's northeastern ties, he'll be looking to get involved with Kyle Washington early. |
||
| Jordan Washington | Queens, NY (Pathways College Prep) | 6'8", 225 lbs. | Washington has gushed about Villanova for ages and apparently has been offered - so why hasn't he committed? The 'Nova staff may have cooled on him, for now. |
