After a bitter offseason between these rival fanbases that saw Temple Owls fans livid that the Villanova Wildcats opposed their move to the Big East for all-sports, these two local rivals will take to the field for one last time in the 4-year Mayor's Cup series.
While last season was a blowout in Temple's favor, Villanova took the inaugural game of the series in 2009 and the 2010 game was decided by just a touchdown. Villanova returns all but 2 starters, albeit from a 2-9 team, and will attempt to put forth a solid effort in the season opener for both schools.
