Travel isn't an issue in NCAA athletics

Deadspin presents the story of a small, southern D-III conference that grew to stretch from Maine to California. The D-III UAA already stretched from New England, to Georgia, to St. Louis, so why not go further? People talk a lot about travel as a burden for college sports, but even at the lowest levels of the NCAA, it seems to be one of the lowest concerns of conferences and school administrators.
