Well, it's the end of the line for Villanova. We all know that the 'Cats need to beat Maine at Homecoming this weekend to stay alive for the conference title. The ensuing auto-bid looks like the best way into the playoffs right now. The good news, is that we control our own destiny with UNH likely losing at least another game along the way.
The other good news is that there's a great chance they, along with James Madison lose this weekend as both face tough road games. Here's what's happening this weekend in CAA football.
Team | CAA | Overall | Streak |
---|---|---|---|
Maine | 3-0 | 6-1 | W3 |
Villanova | 3-1 | 4-3 | L1 |
Towson | 3-1 | 7-1 | W1 |
Delaware | 2-1 | 5-2 | W1 |
James Madison | 2-1 | 5-2 | W2 |
New Hampshire | 2-1 | 3-3 | W2 |
Rhode Island | 2-3 | 3-5 | W1 |
William & Mary | 1-2 | 4-3 | L1 |
Stony Brook | 1-2 | 3-3 | W2 |
Richmond | 0-3 | 2-5 | L3 |
Albany | 0-4 | 1-7 | L6 |

Delaware (5-2, 2-1 CAA) vs. Rhode Island (2-3, 3-5 CAA) -- 12:00 pm ET
Rhody beat Richmond for the first time since 2003, 12-10 last weekend. You are reading that correctly. Rhody kicked four field goals and beat Richmond. Delaware was off last week, but because Rhody has now made me believe in miracles, I'm inclined to say that the Hens will lose on a drunken fan streaking onto the field and sacking their quarterback.
Towson (7-1, 3-1 CAA) vs. Richmond (2-5, 0-3 CAA) -- 12:00 pm ET
And because Richmond has made me now believe that there is an actually Hell on Earth (hint: it's losing 12-10 to Rhode Island), I'm fully expecting Towson to follow up last weekend's 44-17 beatdown of Albany with another blowout.
James Madison (5-2, 2-1 CAA) vs. William & Mary (4-3, 1-2 CAA) -- 3:30 pm ET
Very clearly the upset special of the week. William & Mary are a much better team than their record indicates, and James Madison are the exact opposite (no, I refuse to forget the 24-20 win over St. Francis (PA), Dukes fans). Plus, we need the Tribe to beat the living hell out of JMU since we have to go play them next weekend. Soften them up for us, TFTribe.
New Hampshire (3-3, 2-1 CAA) vs. Stony Brook (3-3, 1-2 CAA) -- 4:00 pm ET
A close second for the upset special of the week. Remember how we crapped the bed last weekend after a huge win? New Hampshire is probably going to do the same this weekend. Despite Stony Brook having their struggles this year, I'd feel a lot better about UNH if this game were in Durham.
*Albany is off this week
