Following a breakout sophomore campaign in 2012 where Kevin Monangai ran for 1386 yards and 12 touchdowns en route to All-CAA honors, expectations were extremely high for the junior running back in 2013. Perhaps surprising to some fans, Monangai took on a lesser role this past season.
Monangai totaled just 643 yards on the ground and 53 yards through the air, while seeing his yards per carry dip from 5.7 in 2012 to 4.9 in 2013. A lot of that had to do with the continued emergence of quarterback John Robertson, who morphed into the primary ball carrier as the season wore on.
Despite the decreased role, Monangai still had some memorable games in 2013, with his best performance coming against Penn (17 carries, 101 yards), while his performances against Fordham and William & Mary were impressive as well.
We'll be looking forward to a strong senior season from #2 in 2014.
