Syracuse was too much for Villanova to handle in Saturday's BIG EAST Lacrosse Final as the Orange took home the championship, 13-9.
The Wildcats were close to Syracuse to the halfway point in the second quarter. The Orange
men then went on a 5-0 run that ended at the beginning of the fourth quarter when Jack Rice's second goal of the game stopped the streak.
Nova went on a 3-goal streak of their own getting to with in two at 11-9 with 9 minutes to go, but Syracuse's defense tightened up with the championship and automatic qualifying bid in sight.
Post-game Villanova head coach Mike Corrado added, contest, "I’m incredibly proud of how our team fought all game and made a comeback. We were down by two with nine minutes left to play and that puts you in a great position to win. It’s a game of runs and we had momentum but Syracuse pulled out the win. Congratulations to the Orange for a great game."
With the squad's 7-8 record, Villanova will not be eligible for the NCAA Lacrosse tournament.
