CAA Football Preview Week 4: Hello, conference play!

Mark L. Baer-USA TODAY Sports

As depressing as that loss to Fordham was, I've been convinced by the likes of BarneyRubble & Co. that Fordham is actually a decent team, and while we should be ashamed, it's not the end of the world. And not that I've had the bye week to recharge my 'Nova football batteries, I'm back in full-on #BeatStonyBrook mode.

Plus, CAA conference action kicks off in full force this week, so many of our rivals will be picking up L's as well.

Saturday, September 21

Towson (3-0, 0-0 CAA) vs. NC Central (2-1, 0-0 MEAC) -- 2:00 pm ET

Okaaaaaaay, so not everyone is finished warming up against cupcakes. After back-to-back 49-7 pastings of Holy Cross and Delaware State, the Tigers get an opponent who was taken to not one, but TWO overtimes against St. Augustine's School of the Blind.

Maine (3-0, 0-0 CAA) vs. Northwestern (0-0, 0-0 B1G) -- 3:30 pm ET, Big Ten Network

And we've all been bemoaning 'Nova avoiding a nice easy cupcake to start the season and grease the wheels. Maine, despite beating UMass a couple of weeks ago, now gets one of the most underrated FBS teams in the country in the 18th ranked Wildcats.

Wagner (1-2, 0-0 NEC) vs. Delaware (2-1, 0-0 CAA) -- 6:00 pm ET

Normally I'd get excited about the prospect of Delaware coming off a 51-7 shellacking at the hands of the US Naval Academy and possibly be reeling, but Wagner beat Georgetown by 7 points in their opening game. Georgetown. 7 points. You are reading that correctly.

Charlotte (2-1) vs. James Madison (2-1, 0-0 CAA) -- 6:00 pm ET

The Dukes put their reputation up for grabs after they squeaked by St. Francis (PA) 24-20 last week. On the other hand you have Charlotte, whose football program was resurrected in 2008 and is without a conference until they go FBS by way of Conference USA in 2015. They've beaten Campbell 52-7, something called a Chowan 47-7, and were dismantled by NC Central 40-13. I could go either way on this one.

Liberty (2-1, 0-0 Big South) vs. Richmond (0-0, 0-0 Northeast) -- 6:00 pm ET

Richmond is staring 1-3 in the face as Liberty are a decent program, although they haven't been tested since a narrow opening week loss to Kent State. I can only assume Richmond's 12-10 loss to Gardner-Webb last week involved more than a few acts of God to keep the score that low.

Central Connecticut St. (0-3, 0-0 Northeast) vs. Albany (1-2, 0-1 CAA) -- 7:00 pm ET

People, we have a new doormat in the CAA. The Danes lost to Rhody last week.

Rhode Island (1-2, 1-1 CAA) vs. William & Mary (1-2, 0-0 CAA) -- 7:00 pm ET

Where's TFTribe, our resident W&M fan? Beware of Rhody....they are coming for you.
