Villanova Basketball: 2008 In Review

A Calendar Year-End Review for basketball is tough because it encompasses multiple seasons, but here are the highlights (and lowlights) for Villanova Basketball's 2008 calendar year...

The Worst Call of 2008?

  • Villanova entered 2008 at #17 in the AP Poll and #16 in the USA Today/ESPN Poll with a 10-1 Record
  • January 23 through February 4th saw the Wildcats lose 5 straight games to Rutgers, Notre Dame, Pitt, Syracuse and St. Joe's (PA)
  • Andrew Ott transfers to Penn State
  • February 11th... Corey Stokes gets whistled for a questionable foul call 90 feet away from the basket with .1 seconds in a tie game at Georgetown.
  • 'Nova wins 5 of last 7 in the Regular Season to secure the #8 seed in the Big East Tournament.
  • Wildcats beat Syracuse and lose to Georgetown at MSG during the Big East Tournament.
  • Scottie Reynolds scores 1,00 points in his first 2 years

    VU finishes the Regular Season 20-12 (9-9 Conference)

  • Get tabbed with the #12 Seed in the NCAA Tournament
  • Defeat Clemson and Siena in the NCAA Tournament making it to the Sweet 16 in 3 of the last four years- a feat only matched by UNC, Memphis, West Virginia, and UCLA.
  • Scottie Reynolds scores 1,000th point as a Wildcat against Clemson
  • Lose to eventual National Champion Kansas
  • Finish the 2007-08 season with a 24-13 record and ranked #24 in the AP Poll
  • April 13- Taylor King transfers to Villanova
  • April 20- Malcolm Grant transfers to Miami
  • May 20- Maurice Sutton commits to Villanova
  • July 1- Isaiah Armwood commits
  • July 16- Rafal Bigus ('99) signs with Politechnika Poznan
  • July 31- James Bell ('10) commits
  • August 25- Mouphtaou Yarou commits
  • 'Nova ranked #24 in the Pre-Season AP Poll
  • Casiem Drummond transfers to Marist
  • December 12- Dominic Cheek commits
  • Finish 2008 with a record of 12-1 and ranked #15
