Kevin Mulvey, one of the best pitchers ever to wear a Villanova uniform and one of four players the Mets sent to Minnesota in a trade for Johan Santana in 2007, was been called up by the Twins Friday and added to their bullpen. The 24-year-old has struck out 83 and walked 31 in 103 innings for Minnesota's Triple-A affiliate, the Rochester Red Wings. He has appeared in 17 games -- all starts -- and has thrown two complete games, including a complete game shutout at Toledo June 11.
Mulvey is second all-time in Villanova history with 222 strike-outs. He pitched the eighth no-hitter in school history during his sophomore season. In 2006, Mulvey became the first Villanova player ever chosen with a major league team's first draft pick. He was drafted in the second round (62nd overall) by the Mets. Mulvey has made a steady rise through the minor league ranks over the past three seasons, pitching parts of two seasons in the Mets system prior to being traded to the Twins.
