Continuing with the alumni theme, Brian Lynch, who played for Nova in the late 1990’s, found himself in the news this week because of his "better half," tennis star Kim Clijsters. Clijsters received a wild card invitation to the 2009 U.S. Tennis Open after an absence of two years prompted by her marriage to Brian and the birth of their daughter, Jada. Clijsters had been ranked No. 1 in the world before leaving the WTA tour and won the U.S. Open in 2005. She has advanced to the third round with wins over Viktoriya Kutuzova and #14 seeded Marion Bartoli.
Oh, and what’s Brian been up to? After his senior year at Villanova, when he was the third leading scorer behind Malik Allen and Gary Buchanan, he went on to play professional basketball in Europe. He currently plays for the Antwerp Giants in Belgium, where he averaged 7.4 ppg and shot 50% from the field last season.Lynch still maintains a connection to the Villanova Basketball Family; he particpated in the Basketball Alumni Golf Outing and was at the Attitude of a Champion premier.
