After jumping from 4th to 3rd in the FCS College Football Poll following their win over then #1 Richmond last week, the Wildcats (9-1, 6-1) dominated Towson at Johnny Unitas Stadium yesterday, winning 49-7. Nova scored on their first five possessions and led 35-0 at the half. For the game, Nova had 430 yards of total offense while holding the Tigers to 48 yards rushing. Chris Whitney ran the offense for only four series, completing 6 of 7 passes for 93 yards and two touchdowns, before being replaced in the blow-out by reserve Antwon Young.
The Cats now are in a three-way first-place tie with Richmond and William & Mary heading into the final regular season game against archrival Delaware next week. Delaware, which was ranked #23 going into its game Saturday, made a respectable showing against a very strong Texas Bowl-bound Navy team (ranked #31 nationally), losing 35-18. Delaware led in that game 9-7 at the half, and should not be taken lightly by the Cats. Nova can secure a conference automatic bid for the upcoming FCS playoffs with a win over the Blue Hens.
