A sell-out crowd of 12,000-plus at Villanova Stadium saw the #2 Cats (10-1, 7-1) wrap up the CAA conference championship with a 30-12 victory over #25 Delaware (6-5, 4-4). Chris Whitney ran for a career-high 138 yards and a touchdown and redshirt freshman kicker Nick Yako made three field goals from 32, 45 and 34 yards. The Cats led 20-3 at halftime and allowed Delaware just one touchdown in the second half with the game out of reach. Matt Szczur finished with 179 all purpose yards. Delaware quarterback Pat Devlin attempted finished 42-of-58 for 407 yards, but threw three interceptions. The Villanova defense held Delaware to 45 rushing yards.
By winning, the Cats earned an automatic bid to the 16-team NCAA Division I-AA tournament playoff. The seeding will be announced live on Sunday at 3 p.m on ESPN News. Villanova is likely to play a home game next Saturday in the first round.
