Football: Szczur will play his Senior season

Szczur 1According to Sean Donovan, Villanova football's MVP, Matt Szczur, announced his intention to play his senior year at Villanova during a speech at last night's football banquet. Szczur was expected to be picked in the upcoming MLB draft after a strong performance for the baseball team. He had previously been drafted in the 38th round of the 2007 Major League Draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers, but chose to go to college instead of signing a contract.

Szczur 3It's unclear whether Szczur intends to enter the baseball draft, or if he plans to hold off until after the 2011 season. He could enter the draft & play minor league baseball during the summer without hurting his ability to return to school and play his last season of football eligibility, much like Cub's pitcher Jeff Samardzija did in 2006.
