Villanova Defeats James Madison 14-7

A perfect day on Homecoming Weekend ended with a Villanova victory, as the Wildcats took down James Madison 14-7 in front of 9,217 fans in Villanova Stadium.

The home-side scored 2 touchdowns in the 2nd quarter and the defense made them stand up as 'Nova secured a huge home victory as they continue their push for a playoff spot. Chris Whitney through two 2nd quarter touchdown passes - first finding Norman White on an 8-yard score before finding Mikey Reynolds for a 54-yard score that would be the game-winner. Whitney finished the day 13-19 for 154 yards and the two scores.

Despite only scoring twice all afternoon, 'Nova's ground game was again up to par with the team totaling 230 yards behind Angelo Babbaro and Aaron Ball (72 and 55 yards, respectively). With his efforts today, Ball moved into 2nd place on the all-time Villanova rushing list with 2,571 yards.

The defense was the real story of the day though, holding The Dukes scoreless in the first half, and holding them to only one score throughout the day -- making it the 4th time this season 'Nova has held their opponent to 7 points or less. Marquis Kirkland led the team with 10 tackles, and both he and Fred Maldonado recorded 2.5 tackles for loss.

James Madison did have a last-ditch chance to tie this game in the waning momements following a 'Nova turnover in JMU territory, but James Pitts intercepted a pass in the endzone as time expired.

Villanova has now won 14 straight games in Villanova Stadium, and is 22-1 in their last 23 contests at home. They'll host Richmond next week in yet another crucial CAA contest.
