Villanova downed Marist on Tuesday evening 84-47 in the 1st Round of the NIT Season Tip Off.
Sophmore Maalik Wayns was one of 5 Wildcats in double figures for scoring as he led the way for 'Nova (2-0) with 17 points on 6-11 shooting. Fellow sophmores Dominic Cheek and Mo Sutton added 15 and 13 points respectively.
Corey Fisher and Mouphtaou Yarou added 10 points a piece as Villanova out-rebounded the Red Foxes by a 39-23 margin led by Sutton's 9 boards.
After being down 7-8, Villanova's shooting warmed up as the Cats used a 19-1 run to push themselves to a 36-25 advantage at the half.
The #6/7 Wildcats finished off shooting nearly 45% from the field (29-65) including nailing 8 of 21 shots from behind the arc (38.1%).
