BIG EAST Confirms Football Expansion

Following the annual BIG EAST Meetings today, Joe Schad of ESPN is reporting that the BIG EAST is officially looking to expand to 10 football members.

"Today, our Board of Directors affirmed a set of key strategic initiatives, including expansion, designed to enhance membership stability and maximize our value," Big East commissioner John Marinatto said in a statement.

Villanova has already been asked to consider joining, a move that makes the most sense as they are already a member for all other sports. The New York Post has reported that the Central Florida Knights, Houston Cougars, TCU Horned Frogs, East Carolina Pirates, Temple Owls and Memphis Tigers are also being considered.

John Marinatto has said no officials will be commenting further on the process at this time.

...I think this is something we already knew, but nice to see it confirmed...have to think Villanova is a huge priority for the conference, and IF we decline (again I don't think we will), it's going to create some problems about what to do...
