Matt Szczur rushed for 3 touchdowns, threw another to Norman White, and caught a pass himself from Chris Whitney in a career-day to lead Villanova to a 42-24 win over the #1-seeded Appalachian St. Mountaineers. Szczur led a Villanova ground game that tallied 285 yards as a team with 116 yards on 16 carries. It was the 2nd time in his career that he has run for, passed for, an caught a touchdown in the same game.
It was bend but don't break for the Villanova defense as they held DeAndre Presley to just just 2 TD's despite the QB throwing for over 360 yards in the game. They did, however, intercept Presley in the endzone once at a key juncture in the game.
Norman White led the Villanova aerial attack with 4 catches for 88 yards, including an incredible one-handed catch and run for a score.
Villanova will take on Eastern Washington, who defeated North Dakota St. 38-31 in overtime this past weekend. They will be without star and All-American running back Taiwan Jones after he broke his foot in Saturday's win.
