The Villanova Wildcats took down their city rival last night in The Holy War, defeating the St. Joseph's Hawks (PA) by the score of 71-60. As reported earlier, Isaiah Armwood did not make an appearance after suffering a back injury in practice and Maurice Sutton was also absent with an ankle problem.
That left Jay Wright with just 6 reliable players (James Bell played, but is clearly still getting back into it after shin issues) and although the 'Cats were sloppy at times, the 11-point victory will do just fine with such a short bench.
Antonio Pena led the way with a career-night, registering 14 points and 14 rebounds, while Corey Stokes led the team in scoring with 17 points and and 8 rebounds. Corey Fisher shrugged off another terrible shooting performance (3-13) to record 14 points and 8 assists.
Dominic Cheek had his second straight impressive outing with 14 points and 7 rebounds. As a team, 'Nova out-rebounded the Hawks 45-32.
We'll have more on this game later today.
