The Villanova defense imposed its will on Lehigh all game long, proving to the country that even with a few losses from last year's Championship squad, they are still a force to be reckoned with The unit was dominant, holding the Mountain Hawks to just 8 first downs in a 35-0 win over Lehigh on Saturday afternoon.
The offense delivered a mixed bag, as they turned the ball over 3 times in the first half (2 interceptions from Chris Whitney), but at the end of the day they piled up 330 yards on the ground as 5 different players found the endzone.
Aaron Ball, Angelo Babbaro and Dorian Wells (via Whitney) hit paydirt in the first half, and Ball finished with 102 yards rushing on the day. Late in the game, Andy Talley was able to get the young'ns in, and freshman RB Ransford Quarrie scored his first collegiate touchdown. TE Chris Farmer rounded out the scoring for the Wildcats with a 7-yard catch from Whitney in the 3rd quarter.
...The amount of turnovers, especially against a bad team, is pretty concerning...we aren't going to be able to pull that off against the big boys in a few weeks...
...But I do love what the defense is bringing to the table and I think they're in for a very big year...
Villanova plays its home opener next Saturday vs. Towson at 3:30 at Villanova Stadium.
