Football: Kevin Monangai Commits

I guess he enjoyed the Nova/Maryland basketball game, because at the end of his official visit this weekend he gave Andy Talley his verbal commitment to play football on the Main Line.

Kevin Monangai is the second three-star runningback to commit to Villanova in the 2011 class. La Salle's Jamal Abdur-Rahman is the other highly-rated runner.

Monangai was a Second Team All-State pick and had made official visits to Central Michigan and Fordham as well. Rutgers and BC were also recruiting him, but neither had yet made an offer.

He was primarily used in the triple-option at Seton Hall Prep.

While next year's Wildcats may experience some growing pains with the loss of so many senior talents, Coach Talley is lining up an outstanding recruiting class for next year. It won't be long before Villanova football is on the national stage again. In addition to the other highly-rated commitments that are lined up, 17 football recruits made their official visits over the weekend.

Defensive tackle Pat Williams also committed recently and made an official visit this weekend. The Florida native had previously been committed to play at Buffalo, and had double-digit offers to choose from. Of Villanova, he said:

I committed to Villanova this evening. I kind of felt when I got off the plane that this is where I'd want to be.

Villanova's a program I want to be a part of. They are about business. They're not about the girls. It's about how getting a degree from Villanova will prepare you for the real world.
