Walker: Texas Raider

According to a report from VUSports.com's Eric Watkins, Chris Walker will be leaving the Main Line to take a job on Billy Gillespie's staff at Texas Tech. That report was later corroborated by Fox Sport's Jeff Goodman. Walker had been a member of Villanova's coaching staff since 2009, and was expected to provide a boost to Nova's recruiting, but his Texas connections had not panned out for the 'Cats during his two years on campus.

Walker was a 1992 Villanova graduate who had a relationship with Jay Wright from his playing career. He also served as an assistant coach on the Main Line under Steve Lappas in 2000-2001, but left the program when Wright was hired, following Lappas to UMass.

This move opens a spot on Jay Wright's staff. It remains to be seen if Wright will continue to fill openings from within the program, as he did last summer, or if an experienced assistant would be brought in as a replacement.

If Wright chose to stay in-house, it would likely be 2006-graduate Baker Dunleavy being promoted to assistant coach, but with only one season under his belt as Director of Basketball Operations, he may require more seasoning before stepping up.

UPDATE 4/20: I reached out to Vince Nicastro for comment on this and a few other issues. On Walker, he said this, "[I] understand Chris [Walker] may have a great opportunity. If that becomes official, I am sure that Jay [Wright] will handle it appropriately."
