Reid Wins Award as Top Track Athlete

As we noted earlier on the VUHoops Twitter, Rising Senior, Sheila Reid, has been named the women's winner of the 2011 Honda Sports Award for Track & Field. She also won the award in December after winning the Cross Country National Championship being the third woman to win the award twice in the same year.

The most recent award is coming a mere 4 days after the Ontario native became the first woman to win the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field 1,500m and 5,000m races in the same year.

Her dominance in running, which includes 4 National Championships this past academic year, puts her as a front-runner for Female College Athlete of the Year.

Reid noted, "It is very humbling to be named the Honda Sports Award winner considering the outstanding nominees that were up for the award. "The other nominees all have terrific accomplishments and for me to be named the winner from this group is an amazing honor."
