340p Update: Villanova Press Release
Set your calendars for November 19th. The rumors had been running around for a bit, but DelCo Daily Times reporter Chris Vito confirmed them today via Twitter- Villanova Football will host the University of Delaware at PPL Park.
Vito has comments from the CEO of MLS's Philadelphia Union, Nick Sakiewicz:
We're their partner. We want to form a relationship with Villanova University to make PPL Park their home. For now, it's a one-year deal w/ Villanova but Sakiewicz said he & the Union are "open for business" to host "as many games as they desire.
Tickets will go on sale on August 1st.
Currently, the Philadelphia Union is the main tennant of Chester's PPL Park- the main target as a new home for a Villanova BCS Football Program. The year-old stadium has hosted a Lacrosse Tournament in May and is scheduled to host the NCAA Men's Lacrosse Quarterfinals in 2012. PPL also hosted the two-day USA Sevens Collegiate Rugby Championship earlier this month.
Villanova Football will now host Home Games at Villanova Stadium, Franklin Field, and PPL Park in 2011.
What do you think about this development? Do you think this bodes well for a FCS upgrade?
