Early verbals: 2012 Football Commits

After attending Villanova's football camp, 2012 inside linebacker prospect Austin Calitro gave the 'Cats his verbal commitment. The Danbury High School senior has been rated 3-stars by Rivals.com, but remains unranked by Scout.com and ESPN.

Boston College and Temple had both expressed interest and Calitro ultimately picked the Wildcats over a scholarship offer from the Owls. That said, a verbal commitment can always be broken, and the Villanova staff will keep its fingers crossed until the fax machine stops on signing day.

Calitro joins two South Jersey linemen who also committed recently to join the 2012 class, Jake Prus and Nico D’Angelo. While Prus received mostly I-AA offers, including some Ivy League and CAA attention, D'Angelo chose the Wildcats over Tulane, Buffalo and Miami of Ohio, as well as some other CAA programs. Temple had reportedly also been in contact.

According to Keith Pompey, D'Angelo can run the 40-yard dash in 4.9 seconds and bench presses 365 pounds. That strength and speed is likely how he earned a 2-star rating on Scout.com despite only having 12 high school starts under his belt.

The recruiting season is still early, of course, but now that camp is winding up, the Villanova staff has had their opportunity to look at some of the available talent and will look to secure a few more commitments in the coming months.
