EuroJam 2011: Hoops Season Starts Early

As you are aware, Villanova men's basketball will be packing it's bags for Europe early next month. The 'Cats will make stops in France, Luxembourg and the Netherlands between August 7th and 16th, playing five exhibition games. They will play three of those games as part of the round-robin EuroJam 2011 competition, against the senior national teams of Israel, Netherlands and Georgia.

These won't be the youth teams that James Bell faced with the USA U19 squad, but the same senior national teams that participate in Olympic and other major international competitions.

Eurojam 2011 will also feature the Boston College women's team, and will feature an 8-game schedule over three days, including six men's games which will crown the first-ever EuroJam Champion.

VUhoops.com will be your source for information and updates about Villanova basketball's summer trip to Europe. We will have results and updates from all of the action in Amsterdam.

Youth in attendance will also be treated to a free basketball clinic run by Henk Pieterse, a Dutch national basketball guru. Pieterse was an important member of the Dutch national teams of the 1980s. There will be other activities for youths, like breakdancing and cheerleading workshops as well.

The cheerleading clinic will be run by the Djalita Dancers, an outgrowth of the now-defunct NFL-Europe's Amsterdam Admirals Cheerleaders. The squad now performs at various sporting events and concerts in the Netherlands in addition to providing instruction.
