Curtis Sumpter Makes US Pan-Am Squad

It's official, Villanova alumn Curtis Sumpter has been named to the US National Basketball Team for the upcoming Pan-Am Games.

Sumpter was also a member of the 2004 USA World Championship For Young Men Qualifying Team that finished 5-0 and won the gold medal in Halifax, Canada. He has most recently played with Marousi BC (Greece), where he averaged 9.8 ppg., 6.0 rpg., 1.4 apg., and shot 59.6 percent from the field and 76.0 percent from the foul line.

The Pan American Games, held every four years in the year prior to the Olympics, are being held Oct. 13-30 in Guadalajara, Mexico. The men’s basketball competition, which features eight teams, is being conducted Oct. 26-30.

The USA men were drawn into Group B for the Pan American Games and are joined by national teams from Brazil, Dominican Republic and Uruguay. Argentina, Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico are in the other Group.

The US open preliminary round play Oct. 26 facing Dominican Republic, then face defending Pan American Games champion Brazil on Oct. 27, and conclude preliminary play versus Uruguay on Oct. 28. Semifinals action will be played Oct. 29, and the finals will be contested on Oct. 30.
