Morning Cup O' Mud: Weekend Recap

Homecoming weekend 2011 has come and gone for Villanova - here's all that happened over the weekend. Tragedy struck early Sunday morning when 2010 alumna Lauryn Ossola was killed after being hit by a car on Lancaster Ave. around Erin's Pub.

Villanova Earns BIG EAST Shutout Victory
Villanova (7-9, 3-2) moved one step closer to securing a berth in the BIG EAST conference tournament with a 2-0 shutout victory over conference opponent, Georgetown (2-14, 0-5). Freshman Lauren Wilson (Hummelstown, Pa.) and junior Amy Jackson (Columbia, Pa.) were the goal scorers for Villanova on the afternoon.

Blue Defeats White 33-23 in Annual Basketball Scrimmage
The Blue team defeated the White squad by a count of 33-23 in the annual Blue/White men's basketball intra-squad scrimmage held here today at the Pavilion. Junior point guard Maalik Wayns set the pace for the Blue squad with 16 points.

Wildcats Welcomed New Season at Hoops Mania 2011 Presented by Advanced Staging and CAT
The 2011-12 men's and women's basketball teams welcomed the new season at a packed house on Friday night at the Pavilion at Hoops Mania 2011 presented by Advanced Staging Productions and the Campus Activity Team (CAT).

Villanova falls to No. 21 Old Dominion, 37-14
Villanova coach Andy Talley is measured in his comments, but the frustration is clearly evident. Talley basically said it's back to the drawing board for his quarterback situation and, conversely, his team after Saturday's 37-14 loss to Old Dominion in a Colonial Athletic Association game at Villanova Stadium.

Villanova Field Hockey Clinches BIG EAST Berth
Villanova (7-9, 3-2) clinched a berth in the BIG EAST tournament last night by virtue of their 2-0 victory over Georgetown coupled with a Providence loss to Louisville. It is Villanova's first appearance in the BIG EAST postseason tournament since 2006, when the Wildcats lost in the semifinals to Providence.

Wildcats Look Strong in 3-1 Victory over Connecticut
Junior Morgan Petkovich recorded a double-double and Krista Andersen and Maggie Mergen tallied double figure kills as the Villanova volleyball team (14-18, 6-2 BIG EAST) defeated Connecticut, 3-1(25-18, 22-25, 25-17, 25-15) on Friday evening.

Wildcats Fall in Three Sets to St. John's
Senior Maggie Mergen connected on 18 kills and hit .351, but the Villanova volleyball team (14-9, 6-3 BIG EAST) fell 3-0 (23-25, 13-25, 23-25) to St. John's on Sunday afternoon in Jake Nevin Fieldhouse.
