Morning Cup O' Mud: 'Nova Sports Roundup

Still not much going on along the Big East expansion front since Sunday's meeting between the Big East presidents concluded, so let's take around the rest of the Villanova athletic teams in this morning's daily link roundup.

Villanova (5-6, 1-1) scored the first goal of the game late in the first half, but Bucknell (4-6) evened the score less than a minute later and scored the game winner on a penalty shot early in the second half to take home the 2-1 victory. It was Bucknell's first victory in the matchup between the two schools since 2006.

The Villanova volleyball team remain perfect in the BIG EAST as the squad picked up a 3-1 (25-21, 24-26, 25-14, 25-21) victory over Pittsburgh on Sunday afternoon at Jake Nevin Fieldhouse.

Senior forward Katie Ryan (Wayne, N.J.) was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week and redshirt freshman midfielder Stephanie Myers (Downingtown, Pa.) earned a spot on the league's weekly Honor Roll, the conference announced on Monday afternoon. Both players were pivotal in two wins for Villanova over the weekend.

Villanova junior midfielder Emerson Lawrence has been named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week and was also honored as the Philly Soccer Six Player of the Week for his efforts in the Wildcats recent wins over Saint Joseph's and Seton Hall.

Senior forward Katie Ryan (Wayne, N.J.) set a school record for career game-winning goals and Villanova (6-6-2, 2-4 Big East) scored early and often in a 4-1 win over No. 22 West Virginia (9-4, 5-1 Big East) at the West Campus Soccer Complex on Sunday afternoon. Two goals in each half propelled the Wildcats to their biggest win of the season in their first contest against a nationally-ranked opponent that had won 17 consecutive BIG EAST games prior to today.

In the meantime, however, Sumpter has another goal: to represent the USA at the 2011 Pan Am games. The games take place in Guadalajara, Mexico at the end of the month.
