Following yesterday's heart-stopping win at DePaul, I began to wonder just how good Corey Fisher has been for Villanova in Big East games this season. There was a lot of chatter about why Fisher doesn't do that more (because clearly he's capable) and it felt like a lot of people felt like he hasn't been that great consistently this year.
Those are fair points, but once you look at the statistics, I think it tells a very different story. Frankly, Fisher appears to BE Villanova right now.
17.7 PPG
5.2 APG
3.1 RPG
51.6 FG%
51.7 3P FG%
80.6 FT%
2.1 : 1 Assist/Turnover Ratio
Those aren't good numbers, those are incredible numbers, especially when you consider how Villanova has struggled lately. I don't even want to think about where we would be if he had gotten hurt.
Fisher should be a lock for 1st-Team All-Big East, but just looking at those again and knowing how he has carried this team, you would think there would be more chatter surrounding him for Big East Player of the Year as well. Perhaps with a few big wins at Notre Dame and Pitt down the stretch, that talk will heat up late.
