Remember Matt Szczur? In fairness after that travesty of a basketball season his impacts on the athletics program may be forgotten a bit, but he's still killing it after opting for professional baseball with the Chicago Cubs instead of taking a shot at the NFL Draft (where he would have been a sure-fire draft pick).
Matt Szczur promoted to High A one day before All-Star Futures Game | Press of Atlantic City
Chicago Cubs prospect Matt Szczur, a former football player at Villanova, will play in his first All-Star Futures game at 6 p.m. today at Chase Field in Phoenix. He was also promoted to High-A Daytona in the Cubs organization after hitting .314 with 55 runs, 27 RBIs, 5 HRs and 17 stolen bases in 66 games for Low-A Peoria.
Szczur has been praised by many baseball scouts as a definite major-league quality player in the next couple of years, and if he continues to unleash his skillset at High-A ball just like he did in Peoria, he may find himself playing for an ailing Cubs team sooner than anyone could have imagined.
Matt played for the USA team in last night's All-Star Futures game and came off the bench and went 0-1 in the USA's 6-4 victory over the World team.
