Really disappointing news today as it was revelaed that Villanova Wildcats freshman Tyrone Johnson has a broken foot and will miss out on the team's pre-season trip to Europe. Johnson is expected to be the primary backup to Maalik Wayns this season as the point guard.
It was previously reported that he had sprained his ankle, but that it wasn't serious. As you can imagine, Jay Wright was not exactly stoked by the news that Johnson would miss out on some valuable time to get up to speed.
"We really needed to see him this summer as a point guard," Jay Wright said. "But he’s not going to be able to play. So that’s a disappointment. We needed him to play.
"It happened right after he got here. That’s a spot that’s going to be important for us, the backup point guard spot."
Freshman Darrun Hilliard will fill in for Johnson, while Wright also says that redshirt-freshman JayVaughn Pinkston will also see some time at the point during the preseason.
Johnson is expected to be ready for pre-season camp in October.
