USA U18 Invitees Announced

Villanova signee Ryan Arcidiacono will be attending the Team USA under-18 basketball team training camp this summer at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, hoping to get the call to represent America in the FIBA Americas U18 Championship. He will be joined there by 23 other young prospects, including 2013 Villanova targets, Andrew and Aaron Harrison, former Nova target Troy Williams and a number of other top talents in the 2012 and 2013 classes.

The camp will start on June 5th and continue until the 12th, and will be lead by University of Florida head coach Billy Donovan. Gonzaga's Mark Few and VCU's Shaka Smart will serve as assistant coaches for the team.

"It will be important to learn to play together as a team in a short amount of time," Donovan said. "We need to demonstrate great focus and teamwork and bring a high level of energy and effort every day in order to have success both in training camp and throughout the competition."

The roster will be cut down to a group of finalists after the first three or four days of training camp, selected by the USA Men’s Junior National Team Committee, chaired by Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim. Those players selected will continue to train at the USOTC. The 12-member 2012 USA Men’s U18 National Team roster will be finalized prior to the team’s departure for the 2012 FIBA Americas U18 Championship, which will be played June 16-20 in Sao Sebastiáo do Paraiso, Brazil.

Eight teams will compete in the Brazil, including the USA, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Columbia, Mexico, Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands. The top four finishing teams in the tournament will qualify for next summer’s 2013 FIBA U19 World Championship.

Ryan Arcidiacono was the only player selected to participate from Pennsylvania. 15 states in all are represented among the 24 players. The roster includes 17 high school seniors set to graduate in 2012, six high school underclassmen from the Class of 2013, and one rising college sophomore, SEC All-Freshman selection, Jarnell Stokes.
