Villanova Basketball 2013 Recruiting Big Board: August 7th, 2012

New, comments

Welcome back to another edition of the VU Hoops 2013 basketball recruiting big board. If you missed our inaugural edition last week, you can check it out here. And make sure to stay tuned to our dedicated section for 2013 Villanova basketball recruiting where we'll be filing all our big boards along with any other posts that deal with recruiting in the 2013 cycle.

I took some feedback from the comments last week, so you'll see some more information for each prospect going forward. In this week's edition we've got updates on Josh Hart, Reggie Cameron, a new addition to the big board in Isaiah Watkins, and much more.

Join me after The Jump for the Big Board.

Villanova has 2 seniors on the roster this season in Mouphtaou Yarou and Maurice Sutton, and have 12 scholarship roster players (Dylan Ennis will be taking a redshirt year). 'Nova will be targeting anywhere from 1 to 3 prospects for the 2013 recruiting class. Make no mistake about it, this is a big recruiting year for Jay Wright.

Point Guards

With Tony Chennault, Ty Johnson and Ryan Arcidiacono on campus this fall (and Dylan Ennis joining the following season), point guard is not a huge position of need - however there are players that if they were interested, we'd certainly welcome with open arms.

Rysheed Jordan Philadelphia, PA (Vaux Roberts) 6'4", 185 lbs. Sideways_arrow_medium Having already taken an unofficial visit to 'Nova, it would be great to get him back on campus for an official visit in the fall. The Recruit Scoop caught up with him last week at Live In AC. ($)
Andrew Harrison Fort Bend, TX (Travis)
6'5", 205 lbs.
Down_arrow_medium Still a longshot for Villanova, and will continue to be as the weeks pass until he mercifully finally makes his decision. We'll keep him on here until he drops Villanova from consideration.

Shooting Guards

A priority in this class with only Achraf Yacoubou & James Bell capable of playing the 2 this season until Ennis is eligible, Jay Wright would really like to add a high-end scorer.

Allerik Freeman Charlotte, NC (Findlay Prep) 6'4", 210 lbs. Sideways_arrow_medium Freeman was recently in Garden Grove, CA (about 45 minutes outside of LA) for Adidas Nations, he probably swung by UCLA for an unofficial visit.
Terrence Samuel Brooklyn, NY (South Shore) 6'3", 175 lbs. Down_arrow_medium Samuel will be taking an unofficial visit to UConn this Friday. According to his coach, the 4 current main players are UConn, Pitt, Dayton & Rhode Island.
Aaron Harrison Fort Bend, TX (Travis) 6'5", 210 lbs. Down_arrow_medium Like his brother, this is a long shot, but we'll keep an eye on him until he commits or drops Villanova from consideration.

Small Forwards

There isn't a huge need here with the recent addition of Mislav Brzoja from Croatia, in addition to James Bell, Darrun Hilliard, and even JayVaughn Pinkston's capability to play the 3.

Josh Hart Silver Springs, MD (Sidwell Friends) 6'5", 190 lbs. Up_arrow_medium Villanova recently made his final list of 7 schools, and the hiring of Team Takeover coach Doug Martin as a 'Nova assistant coach will surely help in this recruitment.
Ishmail Wainright Kansas City, MO (Montrose Christian) 6'5", 210 lbs. Sideways_arrow_medium This isn't a huge position of need, but Wainright is the type of talent that Jay Wright would find a spot for. He's likely hoping 'Nova's recent history at Montrose Christian can help him get a foot in the door for the one-time Missouri commit, but it will be an uphill battle.

Forwards

Unless you're all dying to see the 4-guard lineup rolled out on a consistent basis, we could use some beef up front.

Tyler Roberson Roselle, NJ (Roselle Catholic) 6'8", 210 lbs. Sideways_arrow_medium Roberson just released his final 10 schools he'll be considering, with Villanova mkaing the cut. He spoke to Adam Zagoria about his 10 finalists.
Reggie Cameron Paterson, NJ (Hudson Catholic) 6'7", 215 lbs. Down_arrow_medium I spoke with a source with knowledge of Cameron's thinking and right now it appears as if Villanova is on the outside looking in. They're not out yet though.
Kris Jenkins Washington, DC (Gonzaga) 6'6", 230 lbs. Sideways_arrow_medium The hiring of Doug Martin may help out here as he has deep ties in the DMV region. Jay Wright needs some help to get serious in this race.
Isaiah Watkins Toronto, Ont., CAN (St. Benedict's) 6'8", 230 lbs. Sideways_arrow_medium Watkins just trimmed down his list down to 13 schools, with Villanova making the cut. With the prospects of Cameron and Jenkins not looking great, the 'Nova staff could look at Watkins harder.

Centers

With Markus Kennedy transferring, Mouph set to graduate and only Daniel Ochefu waiting in the wings, it's imperative that Jay Wright add a big body (or 2) up front.

Chinonso Obokoh Rochester, NY (Bishop Kearney) 6'9", 220 lbs. Sideways_arrow_medium No major news is likely good news right now in Obokoh's recruitment, which is just getting underway.
Kyle Washington Champlain, MN (The Hotchkiss Schoo) 6'9", 215 lbs. Sideways_arrow_medium Villanova is just getting involved and has yet to offer, but the transfer of Markus Kennedy appears to have opened the door here. A tweet earlier suggested he may be enrolling at Brewster Academy, but that has since been deleted.
Jordan Washington Queens, NY (Pathways College Prep) 6'8", 225 lbs. Down_arrow_medium Washington has gushed about Villanova for ages and apparently has been offered - so why hasn't he committed? The 'Nova staff may have cooled on him, for now.

Anything we missed? Any names out there we should be tracking? Let's talk about it in the comments.

Oh, and our inaugural 2014 Big Board will debut on Thursday!
