Villanova Football Recruiting Roundup: Commits look to bounce back

Editor's Note: Each Friday we'll be posting the weekend schedule for the future members of the Villanova Wildcats football area. If you're local to any of these guys and check them out, let us know how they looked!

Tough week for the Wildcats recruits last week, as it was a winless weekend on the gridiron for their respective high school teams again. All three future Cats will return to the gridiron this weekend (with one game on Saturday) with an eye on bouncing back from last week's disappointment.

Villanova football has 3 verbal commitments from Thomas Plonski, Lorenzo Fertitta, Jr. and Lincoln Collins.

After The Jump we'll take a look at where you can catch these future Wildcats in action this weekend and how they fared the previous weekend.

DL Thomas Plonski | Brooklyn Tech (NY)

Last Game: A 14-13 loss to Kennedy (Bronx), it was a close game for the teams, with each scoring two touchdowns, but Tech couldn't convert on one extra point attempt, which decided the game.

Next Game: 9/22 vs Lehman High School (NY) 12:00 pm ET

RB/DB Lorenzo Fertitta | Bishop Gorman (NV)

Last Game: Bergan Catholic (NJ) defeated Bishop Gorman 42-35. The Bergen Catholic defense performed well early and the Gorman offense had a difficult time putting points up until late in the game.

Next Game: 9/21 @ Servite (CA) 7:30 pm PST -- Servite is one of the best teams in California, but Gorman comes in with a national ranking from ESPN (No. 22), and will be expected to win.

WR Lincoln Collins | Boston College High School (MA)

Last Game: BC High was throttled for a third-straight loss to North Attleborough (MA), 27-7, last week. Collins was held to just two catches for 16 yards with some tough defensive coverage and a lot of blitzes to shake up his quarterback (who completed only three passes).

Next Game: 9/21 @ Dartmouth High School (MA) 7:00 pm ET - The Eagles expect to have their quarterback return from injury and this game should be closer for BC High than the last two.

Information on Villanova football recruiting isn't as easily obtained as similar updates on basketball recruits. That is at least partially a product of the level of each team, with Big East basketball prospects having enough exposure to always be on the media radar. It is also a process of the AAU machine, which brings tremendous numbers of high-level talents into the same gyms on a weekly basis for most of the high school basketball offseason.

Football has 7-on-7 competitions, but the real bulk of recruiting revolves around the high school seasons still, which means that Villanova's recruits tend to be busy playing meaningful games during the bulk of their recruitment.

VUhoops isn't prepared to slack and deprive our readers of this football recruiting information. We hope to offer regular updates on the football recruiting picture -- as we find them. It may not always be a complete picture, but it will be a window on the program's recruiting effort.
