CAA Roundup: Taylor Heinicke Might Be Part Robot

New, comments

Catch up all the action from this past weekend in the CAA as Taylor Heinicke sets all kinds of records again in a wild Old Dominion-New Hampshire game.

CAA Football

I'll confess, I'm not the most avid CAA fan in the world. I love the Villanova football team but when it comes to football you're going to find me mostly watching the FBS-brand on Saturday afternoons. But now there's a thing called Taylor Heinicke that I have to witness to actually believe.

If you haven't seen it (and yes I'm referring to Heinicke as it until somebody can prove he's actually human) yet, or heard of it yet, Google him now. This guy puts the college version of Case Keenum to shame.

Here's the CAA standings, and recaps and links out to all the games follow that.

Delaware 51, William & Mary 21
Nothing went as planned on this night for the hapless Tribe as Delaware dominated on both sides of a 90-minute weather delay to get their CAA campaign off on the right foot and keep the Tribe winless on the season. Delaware returned both a blocked kick and an interception for a touchdown in the rout.

Old Dominion 64, New Hampshire 61
Yes, you are seeing that score correctly. Records were shattered all over the place in this wild affair, including Taylor Heinicke throwing for a D1 record 730 yards in the wild ODU win. This game doesn't disprove the theory that Heinicke might be part machine, but it certainly shows that the ODU defense has a long way to go.

James Madison 32, Rhode Island 7
JMU struggled early against Rhody but came on strong in the second half to put one of the CAA bottom feeders out of their misery. Justin Thorpe recorded his first 300 yard game while recording career highs in completions, attempts and yards. Bob Bentsen was 15-28 for 164 yards and a TD on the day for Rhody.

Richmond 35, Georgia State 14
QB John Laub had a career-high four touchdowns as the Spiders got their CAA campaign off on the right foot by taking out GSU. The Spiders defense had a strong day intercepting Georgia State 3 times on the afternoon. All business for Richmond in this one.

Towson 46, St. Francis (PA) 17
Sophomore Terrance West ran for three touchdowns to set a Towson touchdown rushing record on homecoming weekend for the Tigers. Derrick Joseph also had a 99-yard kickoff return as Towson put this one to bed before halftime, taking a 43-14 lead into the break.

Albany 30, Maine 20
As already covered in our Villanova vs. Maine game primer, Maine will come into the matchup with the Wildcats limping a little bit after falling to future CAA member Albany.
