'Nova Soccer Falls To Air Force 1-0

Villanova's hot start to the season didn't last through the weekend, as the men's soccer team fell in heartbreaking fashion to Air Force on Sunday afternoon at Penn Park. The loss moves Villanova to 4-1 on the season, while Air Force improved to 2-2-1 after completing a weekend sweep in Philadelphia (they beat Penn on Friday night).

Perhaps it was a lack of clinical finishing in front of goal, but by the sound of things, Falcons goalie Matt Underwood had a spectacular afternoon, posting 9 saves on 25 shots from the Wildcats. For the game Villanova held a 25-13 advantage in shots.

"We left things up for chance because we weren't able to put away any of our chances," stated Carlin. "When you have 25 shots and don't convert any of them, it can come back to haunt you."

Despite the numerous chances that the 'Cats had during the game, they were unable to capitalize and were punished for it in the 78th minute. Ironically, it was a set piece that allowed to Air Force to take the lead as Brian Klazura rose above the defense to direct a header into the goal past John Fogarty.

The Philadelphia tour continues this coming Friday as 'Nova will travel back into the city to take on Penn at Rhoads Field. Kickoff is at 7:30 pm ET.
