Prowling The Roster: #7 WS Cameron McCurry

We're counting down the days to Villanova's season opener by profiling every player on the roster.

#7 WS Cameron McCurry

Freshman, 5'11" 200 lbs.

Orange Park, FL

2012 Stats: As a true freshman McCurry recorded 8 tackles (6 solo, 4 assists) in 11 games.

Depth Chart Position: McCurry comes into the fall expected to start at WS and fill the hole left by departed playmaker Ronnie Akins. He won spring ball's Most Improved Player award for the defense, given out by Andy Talley.

How He Came To Villanova: Cam McCurry committed to Villanova in mid-January 2012, and was recruited as a linebacker by schools such as Harvard and Wofford. He was a 1st-Team All-State selection in talent-rich Florida, and also lettered in soccer at Fleming Island.

Expected Output In 2013: It would be unfair to expect similar production to Akins in his first year starting, but the coaching staff has been raving about McCurry since spring practice and that hasn't changed entering fall camp. Along with Joe Sarnese, McCurry could become one of the leaders and top players within the defensive backfield.
