Prowling The Roster: #63 DL Fran Walsh

We're counting down the days to Villanova's season opener by profiling every player on the roster

#63 DL Fran Walsh

Freshman, 6'1" 255 lbs.

Warrington, PA

2012 Stats: Walsh played at Archbishop Wood High School.

Depth Chart Position: Walsh looks set to be a member of the scout team during his freshman season.

How He Came To Villanova: Fran Walsh joined as a preferred walk-on in January after being named 1st Team All-State at center for Archbishop Wood. He also was named The Maxwell Club PA Player of the Year and was given the Jim Henry Award for academic, athletic and community service. Walsh's father Matt passed in 2008 after a fight with brain cancer, and the last football game that Matt coached Fran is was played in Villanova Stadium. Walsh has a picture from that game hanging in his dorm room.

Expected Output In 2013: While Walsh also played defensive tackle in high school, this is a full-time position switch and he may end up being a redshirt candidate in 2013 as he looks to put on more weight which will be required to contribute along the defensive line. With his background story though, Villanova clearly has a driven player who will look to make his mark on the program during his time along the Main Line.
