Prowling The Roster: #53 DL Mike Williams

We're counting down the days to Villanova's season opener by profiling every player on the roster.

#53 DL Mike Williams

Freshman, 6'5" 280 lbs.

Woodlawn, MD

2012 Stats: Williams played his high school football at Archbishop Spalding.

Depth Chart Position: Depending on whether he plays inside or outside remains to be seen but Williams is currently a 3rd stringer.

How He Came To Villanova: Williams was 1st Team All-County and All-State at Spalding, and was a Baltimore Touchdown Club Super 22 selection. Mike Williams committed to Villanova after originally committing to the Maryland Terrapins. He had a change of heart because of his future position - Maryland wanted him to play offensive line while 'Nova gave him the option to play defense.

Expected Output In 2013: Williams has the size required to play immediately, so it wouldn't be a shock to see him get on the field this fall. However, with players like Antoine Lewis, Rakim Cox and Pat Williams ready to handle the lion's share of the work, the coaching staff might opt to preserve a year of Williams' eligibility. I'm betting talent wins out.
