Prowling The Roster: #44 Don Cherry

New, comments

We're counting down the days to Villanova's season opener by profiling every player on the roster.

#44 LB Don Cherry

Sophomore, 6'1" 230 lbs.

Trumbull, CT

2012 Stats: Cherry appeared in 10 games, logging 8.5 tackles on the season (7 solo, 3 assists).

Depth Chart Position: Cherry is well-positioned for a big increase in playing time, as he projects as the #2 MLB on the depth chart exiting spring ball. While Corey Majors is going to start, Cherry will spell him often.

How He Came To Villanova: Playing in the same conference as classmate Austin Calitro, Cherry starred for Trumbull High School en route to All-County and All-Conference honors, as well as being voted Team MVP.

Expected Output In 2013: Majors is going to get most of the fanfare from the press heading into the season, but Cherry will surprise as he looks to build on a freshman season that consisted mostly of special teams duty. Cherry is known as a big hitter, so be on the look out for a few monster hits as the season rolls along.
