Prowling The Roster: #36 Gary Underwood

New, comments

We're counting down the days to Villanova's season opener by profiling every player on the roster.

#36 RB Gary Underwood

Sophomore, 6'0" 215 lbs.

Cincinnati, OH

2012 Stats: As a true freshman he logged 66 yards on 15 carries (4.4 ypc) and caught 12 passes for 106 yards.

Depth Chart Position: Underwood is currently third on the depth chart at RB, but he's definitely going to get carries in his second season, and will be leaned on even more if either Monangai or Medley gets injured.

How He Came To Villanova: Underwood committed to Villanova late in the 2012 cycle, and did so knowing he would be changing positions. He was a high school QB, although he operated a run-heavy offense and didn't throw the ball much.

Expected Output In 2013: After averaging about 1 catch and 1 rush per game a season ago, I'd expect those numbers to see a slight uptick, even if Monangai and Medley do stay healthy for the full season. I would love to see the trickery out again this season as well, and Underwood looks a good candidate to operative a HB-pass if Andy Talley decides to get fancy considering he threw a pass in 2012.
