Jay Wright Style Watch: Syracuse

USA TODAY Sports

Yes, it was a break from the normal Jay Wright attire. This weekend Coach Wright participant in the Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers Weekend is a nationwide event when coaches across the country unite for a common cause — saving lives from cancer.

This is done to...

  • Raise awareness about the fight against cancer.
  • Share the importance of nutrition and physical activity in reducing one’s risk of the disease.
  • Promote the American Cancer Society as a place for people facing cancer to turn to for free information, help, and support.

Usually Jay supports this cause by wearing a track suit with his sneakers. However, in 2013 as an extra special effort, Wright donned his normal bespoke suit with white athletic shoes for what turned out to be Villanova's second upset of a Top-5 team in a week. He wasn't thrilled about the look.

"We tried it," Wright told VUhoops' Brian Ewart after the game. "I'm going to try to get a darker pair for next time to match it better."

To accessorize with his Nikes, Wright sported a charcoal, three button suit, a light blue shirt, and a very Villanova-inspired white and light blue diagonally striped tie with navy accents.

This year, fans have the chance to get in on the action. When you donate $5 to Coaches vs. Cancer by texting "COACH" to 20222 or donating online any time between Jan. 21 and April 9, you’ll be entered for a chance to experience the thrill of college basketball as a true insider.
