The Big East Conference is holding their annual basketball media day at Chelsea Piers in New York City. The conference released their preseason coaches poll, as well as the all-conference teams. Villanova was picked to finish fourth in the league, despite St. John's receiving two first-place votes.

- Marquette (5)
- Georgetown (2)
- Creighton (1)
- Villanova
- St. John's (2)
- Providence
- Xavier

Somewhat predictably, Creighton senior Dough McDermott was unanimously voted the preseason player of the year. In a much more competitive rookie of the year ballot, St. John's freshman guard, and Philadelphia native, Rysheed Jordan came out on top.
Big East Player of the Year: Doug McDermott, Creighton
Big East Rookie of the Year: Rysheed Jordan, St. John's
Villanova fans hoping to see JayVaughn Pinkston's name on the preseason Big East 1st Team will be disappointed, but hey, maybe Villanova's guard-heavy roster will stack up well against the conference considering there were four guards voted onto the first team.
Ryan Arcidiacono and Pinkston were both voted onto the 2nd Team.
