Quick Download: The Mountaineers
Mount St. Mary's is coming off of a 18-14 record and a surprise trip to the North East Conference championship. This year they were selected by the conference's coaches to finish 6th in the NEC. With most of the team returning, Head Coach Jamion Christian, looks to continue the to develop his team’s style of play known as "Mayhem". "Mayhem", is an implementation of Christian's own brand of VCU basketball which features a pressing defense and an offense reliant on the three-point shot.
Opening the 2014 season in the "Battle of the Mountaineers" against West Virginia, Mt. St. Mary's lost 77-62. Led by 6'2" Julian Norfleet's 19 points, The Mount shot 22-55 from the floor, including 7-21 from Three-Point Distance.
Jay Wright is aware of their back court. He noted. "They have three very experienced guards - two of them are fifth year seniors. (Sam) Prescott, (Julian) Norfleet, and (Rashad) Whack can take over a game. Their big guy, (Kristijan) Krajina is really tough inside. It's going to be a tough game."
Mount St. Mary's did out-rebound WVU by a 30-28 margin, behind 6'7" Gregory Graves's 9 boards. The Mountaineers additionally add depth in the frontcourt with 6'10" Kristijan Krajina and 7 footer Taylor Danaher.
Head Coach
Jamion Christian is in his second year at the helm of The Mount and is a 2004 graduate of the Emmitsburg, MD campus. Before landing his first head coaching position, Christian was on the bench at William & Mary and then an assistant on Shaka Smart's 2012 VCU team. He is the 5th youngest coach in Division 1.
