Phil Booth officially signs with Villanova

Phil Booth, who verbally committed to Villanova on July 30th, has officially signed his national letter of intent to play basketball for the Villanova Wildcats. Booth is a 6'3" guard who can play both on and off the ball, and can shoot it from distance. He was the second verbal commitment in the 2014 class, in addition to Mikal Bridges.

Prior to popping for the Wildcats, Booth had trimmed his list to a final five schools in mid-July - with Villanova, Indiana, and Georgetown considered the favorites. The Team Takeover product is a big coup for Villanova, who have made strides into the talent-rich DMV area in recent years, most notably in the 2013 recruiting cycle with Kris Jenkins and Josh Hart.

With Jay Wright opting for only one ball-handler in the 2014 class, Booth and Ja'Quan Newton were both considering Villanova's only available scholarship at the position. Booth pulled the trigger first, giving Jay Wright another guard who can do it all - handle the rock, shooting, and defense. Newton opted for Miami (FL) shortly after, amid speculation that his first choice was Villanova all along.
