Malachi Richardson, a 2015 5-star shooting guard has verbally committed to Jim Boeheim and the Syracuse Orange. He announced the decision this afternoon at a press conference at Trenton Catholic, where he attends high school. The 6'5" Richardson, who plays his AAU basketball for the Philadelphia-based Team Final, selected the Orange over the Villanova Wildcats, Indiana, Hoosiers, Connecticut Huskies, Arizona Wildcats and Rutgers Scarlet Knights.
The lanky shooting guard is a dead-eye shooter who is "one of the best scorers in the class" according to Scout. He is a true shooting guard who is in the process of extending his game with his ball handling, whilst focusing on improving his defense and rebounding, per Rob Brown, his coach on Team Final.
In the national rankings, Richardson is ranked #12 by ESPN, #17 by Scout, #22 by Rivals and #26 by 247sports. Richardson joins 6'9" Tyler Lydon in Jim Boeheim's recruiting class for 2015.
With forward Tim Delaney already committed to Villanova in 2015, Jay Wright will turn his focus to other targets in the backourt, with guard Donte Divincenzo (also of Team Final) likely becoming the primary focus.
